You have no doubt heard my soap box campaign regarding sleep. Sleep is more powerful than the ZONE DIET or your workout program. On whole, we are sleeping 15% less than a decade ago. This leads to impaired memory, reduced learning and reaction time (accidents). In addition chronic partial sleep of as little as 4 days results in reduced levels of leptin (overeating usually sugar) and the bodies ability to metabolize sugars. The folks at 60 Minutes have 25 minutes worth of video from last Sunday's programming you will want to see. I would get there soon, as they will no doubt expire following next weeks show.

Timely posting - thanks for reminding everyone about this. The 60 Minutes piece was in-line with the Lights Out book. Always surprising how sleep and eating are intertwined. This is a very important (and hot) topic in my household.
If only we could give ZMA to babies to help them sleep during teething!
Steve- Babies will sleep but not always on your schedule. Trust an old man, you will miss those days.
One of the more educational parts of the viewing was the sleep quality segment. The researchers sounded a horn everytime the young participant was entering deep sleep. For me, this brought home the importance of the sleep environment. Comfortable quiet room with no light.
